No. Our wake boat rentals are self-operated by default, with a licensed captain available as a paid add-on. If you plan to run the boat yourself, confirm you meet Texas's boater education requirement before your rental date. If you'd rather have someone else at the helm, add a captain when you book and we'll quote it for your date and group size.

Every rental includes fuel to a stated threshold, USCG-required safety equipment sized for your group, standard wake sports safety gear, and a ballast and wake-shape setup matched to your session plan. Do I need a boating license to operate the wake boat myself?

Accepted Answer

Texas requires anyone born on or after September 1, 1993 to complete a TPWD-approved boating safety course before operating a motor over 15 horsepower. The online course takes a few hours. If you were born before that date, or would rather not take the course, adding a licensed captain covers it.

Good Vibes launches from Lake Austin, and the transit to Lake Travis runs through the Mansfield Dam passage, a marked, no-wake stretch that takes 15 to 20 minutes each way. We walk through the specific route with you at pickup if it's your first time making the crossing.

Our Lake Travis wake boats typically accommodate 6 to 8 riders and spotters comfortably, based on the boat's layout and its capacity plate. If your group is larger and splitting time between riding and relaxing, let us know your total headcount when you book.

What's the best time of day for wakeboarding on Lake Travis?

Accepted Answer

Weekday mornings between 6 and 9am put you on the calmest water and the least boat traffic, especially in the main channel. Areas like Hudson Bend hold up better than the main channel once afternoon wind and traffic build.

What's the difference between wakesurfing and wakeboarding, and can I do both on the same rental?

Accepted Answer

Wakesurfing means riding a wave off the back of the boat without a rope, using ballast to shape a pushed-up wave. Wakeboarding uses a tow rope and a taller wake for jumps and tricks. Both use the same boat with a different ballast and wake-shape setup, so you can do both in one session.
