What's Included With a Good Vibes Boat Rental? Complete Guide

The biggest friction point with boat rental bookings isn't price — it's not knowing what the price actually covers. Fuel is the most common surprise: some operators include it, some charge separately at dock rates. Safety equipment, wake sports gear, life jackets, captain fees — every operator structures inclusions differently, and the difference between what's in the headline rate and what you pay at the dock can be $300 to $500.

This guide covers everything included in a Good Vibes Boat Rental, what you'll want to bring, and what to ask any Austin rental operator before you book. We operate wake boats and pontoons on Lake Austin and Lake Travis. Reserve at goodvibesboatrental.com or call 512-906-7993.

What Good Vibes Includes in Every Rental

A Captain — Every Rental Is Captained

Every Good Vibes rental comes with a licensed captain. This is not an add-on. You don't operate the vessel — our captain does. Your group are passengers. This matters for several reasons: you don't need a Texas boating certificate to rent with us, your designated driver problem is solved for the whole day, and you get someone on board who knows Lake Austin's glass-off windows, the dam passage navigation, and the specific anchoring positions that produce the best experiences.

The captain handles speed adjustments for wake surfing and wakeboarding, navigates the Mansfield Dam passage if you're covering both lakes, and knows the bar stop timing for Ski Shores, The Hula Hut, and the Lake Travis establishments.

Fuel — Included to a Stated Threshold

Fuel is included to a stated threshold in Good Vibes base rental rates. We're explicit about what that threshold is when you book — no ambiguity at the dock. Beyond the threshold, dock rates apply. Wake boats running active wake surf sessions consume 6 to 12 gallons per hour at operational speed. We'll tell you exactly where your fuel threshold sits for your rental duration so you can plan the day accordingly.

When comparing Good Vibes pricing to other Austin operators, always ask: "Is fuel included and to what limit?" A headline rate $100 lower that bills fuel separately at $6/gallon can quickly exceed our all-in total cost for an active half-day session.

USCG Safety Equipment

Every Good Vibes rental includes all U.S. Coast Guard required safety equipment: properly sized personal flotation devices (PFDs/life jackets) for every person on board, a fire extinguisher, sound signaling device, and navigation lights. Life jackets are provided in adult and youth sizes.

If your group includes young children requiring infant or toddler-sized life jackets, confirm availability when you book so we have the right sizes on board for your group.

Wake Sports Safety Equipment

Wake sport safety equipment — towropes, observer flags, and basic board sport gear — is included in our standard rental rate. This covers what you need to run a wake surf or wakeboarding session safely. Boards and bindings are available; confirm what you need when booking so the boat is set up correctly at departure.

Departure Walkthrough and Water Knowledge

Every rental includes a departure walkthrough: the vessel controls, the Lake Austin waterway overview, the no-wake zones, and the specific routing and timing recommendations for your group's plans. If you're planning the dam passage to Lake Travis, we walk through that navigation specifically. If you're hitting Ski Shores and The Hula Hut, we'll tell you the optimal routing based on your departure time.

This isn't a liability form — it's the local knowledge that makes the day work. Customers who launch knowing where the glass-off water is, when to arrive at the 360 Bridge, and what the bar stop timing looks like at Ski Shores get a measurably better day than customers who figure it out on the water.

BYOB Policy

Good Vibes is BYOB. You bring your own food and beverages. There's no add-on beverage service, no markup on alcohol, and no restriction on what you bring beyond standard Texas regulations (no glass on the boat, no open containers in public access zones).

Practical planning: bring a cooler-to-boat ratio that accounts for the heat. A Texas summer day on the water runs 95 to 102 degrees air temperature. One cooler for 8 people for a half-day is the minimum. Plan for more ice than you think you need and more water than you plan to drink.

Rental Block Structure

Good Vibes operates in two rental blocks: 10:30 AM – 2:30 PM (morning/midday block) and 2:30 PM – 6:30 PM (afternoon block). Both blocks are 4-hour rentals. Full-day arrangements can be accommodated — contact us directly to discuss.

The morning block captures the glass-off window for wake sports (conditions are best from the start of the rental through approximately noon). The afternoon block captures the peak social energy on Lake Austin — the 360 Bridge raft-up is most active from approximately 2pm to 6pm on summer weekends, and the bar stops are in full swing.

What to Bring

Since Good Vibes provides safety equipment, fuel, and captain, your packing list is relatively streamlined:

  • Cooler with food, drinks, and significantly more ice than you think you need

  • Sunscreen — reapply-grade quantity, not beach-day quantity. On the water at altitude, burn happens faster than you expect

  • Towels — one per person minimum, two is better for wake sports days

  • Change of clothes if you're bar-hopping or heading anywhere after the rental

  • Shoes for dock access — Ski Shores and The Hula Hut docks involve some walking

  • Motion sickness medication if your group has sensitive members — the wake boat hull motion at speed affects some people

  • A dry bag or waterproof case for phones — wake surf spray is real

What Good Vibes Does Not Provide

To be direct about what's not included: food, beverages, alcohol, decorations (for event groups), and any personal gear beyond what's covered above. If you're renting for a bachelorette or birthday and want decorations on the boat, bring them — we have no objection, and we'll have them set up before departure if you arrive with them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Good Vibes provide life jackets for kids?

Yes. We provide USCG-approved life jackets in adult and youth sizes. For infant or toddler sizes, confirm at booking — we'll ensure the right sizes are on board. Texas law requires a wearable life jacket for every person on board at all times.

Do I need a boating license to rent with Good Vibes?

No. Because every Good Vibes rental is captained, you do not operate the vessel and the Texas boating certificate requirement does not apply to you. If you're renting with another operator as a bareboat rental, Texas requires anyone born after September 1, 1993 to complete an approved boating safety course.

Can we bring a bluetooth speaker?

Yes. Bring whatever audio setup you want. The boat has its own sound system, but you're welcome to connect your own device or bring a standalone speaker for the anchoring and bar stop portions of the day.

Can we go to both Lake Austin and Lake Travis on one rental?

Yes. Good Vibes covers both lakes on a single rental. The Mansfield Dam passage connects Lake Austin and Lake Travis — the transit takes 15 to 20 minutes at no-wake speed. Our captain walks you through the passage navigation at departure. Covering both lakes works best on a full-day format with a flexible itinerary. Call 512-906-7993 to plan the routing before you book.
